GDC, New Board Year, Minutes, Announcements and More – 31 March 2014

31 March 2014

Hello IGDA members!

It’s the end of March. Elections are over, GDC has passed, and a new board year is about to start. So many great things are happening and so we wanted to give you a quick recap:

IGDA had a great GDC week filled with 20th anniversary celebrations, roundtables, social gatherings, great talks, and more. Keep an eye out on our weekly IGDA Insider to hear some of the recaps and to learn more about our GDC Vault discount in case you weren’t able to attend or were there but missed some talks!

A huge thank you goes out to our staff and volunteers who make our presence at GDC possible – the org thanks you for all your hard work at pulling off a successful IGDA at GDC!

Election and Board Member Transitions:

We’d like to thank everyone who participated in our election and helped us to reach quorum! Two new board members were elected and a third one was appointed and they start their terms tomorrow! Read our elections recap post for more details.

Meeting Minutes:
Several meeting minutes have been posted and are available for review on our main IGDA site. Due to a technical issue we do not have any meeting minutes for December 2013, but a placeholder was put in the minutes section as we do have the pre-meeting updates available.

January and February 2014 meeting minutes are now live on the site and March’s meeting minutes will be up once they are approved in the April board meeting.

Board Talk:
Have you seen our new blog post series called Board Talk? You can check out Luke Dicken’s first post in the series here and Brian Robbins’ second post in March here. Outgoing Chair Dustin Clingman will be up next in April with his post.

Meeting Announcement and New Officers:
Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, 10 April where we’ll approve the March minutes, talk about the various projects, programs, and services the IGDA is working to create for you, and hold officer elections. Since a new board year is starting the elections for the Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer positions will be held. The election for the Vice Chair position is done 6 months after the start of the term. We will do a full release regarding the new board members and officer elections in late April/early May.

As always you can reach out to the board member working in your area of interest via email by using the contact info located on our About page – your questions, suggestions, and support are always welcome!

Yours in service,
IGDA Board of Directors

2014 Board Elections are Here; Plus Meeting Minutes and Announcements – 22 January 2014

23 January 2014

Hello IGDA Members!

At the board’s recent meeting in December we approved the minutes from our November meeting. You can find them here: 2013 IGDA Board Meeting Minutes

Our next meeting will be this Thursday where the board will discuss, among many items, the 2014 IGDA Board of Director Elections. The Board of Directors serves as the governing body of the organization which supervises and controls the business, property, and affairs of the IGDA.

If you’re interested in serving the IGDA at that level and would like to run for the global Board of Directors please visit the 2014 elections page.

Coming up on this blog in the near future we’ll also have an update on our December virtual mini-offsite as well as a special post from one of our board members, Luke Dicken, as part of a new series of posts we’ll be doing on this blog.

As always, if you have any questions about the board or how you can be involved please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at or contact our staff and team members.

New Board Meeting Format and Updates, Elections, and More – 08 November 2013

8 November 2013

Hello IGDA members!

November is here and we’re fast approaching the time to start elections for the global IGDA Board of Directors. Now is the time to start thinking about if you, or someone you know, would maybe be a great candidate to run for a seat!

The board had their last meeting on 17 October and at that meeting we approved the minutes from our September meeting and you can find them here: You may notice something new about those minutes at the very end.

In order to allow the board time to discuss items in more detail we started the process of having various groups and committees send in a report of the items they’ve been working on since the last meeting. This allows everyone to easily see what is going on in those areas ahead of our call so that we only have to take time out to ask questions or talk more about items that interested someone. These are not part of the minutes the board approves each month but added as an appendix to the minutes so that we can make sure you, the members, also see what’s going on.

For October’s meeting we expanded the appendix even further including updates from individual board members and staff to give you a more in-depth look at what is going on behind the scenes. This is a great way to find out what each person is up to so you can ask questions or get involved in the areas that matter most to you. You’ll see those additional updates along with the minutes from our October meeting posted on our website after we approve the minutes at our November meeting which will be held on 17 November 2013.

IGDA Board of Directors

Board Minutes and New Website – 14 October 2013

14 October 2013

Hello IGDA Members,

We have a new website! This new website is thanks to the hard work of our staff, volunteers, and the teams at Talley and We’d like to send our huge thanks and congratulations to everyone who made that happen.

Here’s a brief rundown on how this change took place:

  • Mid-May: The Board decides at our annual offsite to not only redo the website but also transition to a better functioning membership database.
  • Late June: The staff completes its research and proposes a solution that includes the cost of a new membership database and reduces a lot of other ongoing expenses all while costing less than the original proposals for just a website redesign!
  • July: The website team selects a layout, starts creating the base design, deciding on launch content, and begins preparing the transition to the new membership database.
  • August and September: Things are moving full steam ahead and launch content begins to get updated and moved over to the new website – for more information on future plans for the website read Kate’s latest ED Blog here.
  • October 1st: Just over 4 short months since the board offsite vote the new IGDA website was launched – hurray!

We feel this is a great step forward for the org and we hope you will check it out at

In more mundane news…

Meeting minutes for our 22 August meeting are up here:

The September minutes will be reviewed (and hopefully approved!) at our next meeting on Thursday, 17 October.

As always if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us here in the comments section or at

Board Minutes Posted and IGDA Summit – 8 August 2013

8 August 2013

Hello IGDA Members,

Last week was another step forward for the IGDA as we held our 3rd annual IGDA Summit. We hope you were able to attend! Co-located with our great partner Casual Connect, IGDA Summit is one of our many efforts toward helping provide developers with the tools and resources they need to enhance and elevate their craft.

If you did attend IGDA Summit last week, we would love to hear about your experience. Send us your highlights, feedback, and suggestions to so we can help make our next event even better.

In non-event related news, the board held its most recent meeting on Thursday, 18 July, and great updates were given from all the groups striving to meet their goals from the board offsite. Meeting minutes for our 20 June meeting are up here:

Our next scheduled meeting is 22 August 2013.
